The XCOM franchise is a science fiction video game franchise which debuted in 1993 with the strategy game "UFO: Enemy Unknown" by Mythos Games and MicroProse. Up to 2002, the franchise came to include six games out of a potential eight (two of the projects were cancelled) and two novels. Now two new X-COM-based games have been announced: "XCOM", a tactical, strategy-based first-person shooter video game currently being developed by 2K Marin and "XCOM: Enemy Unknown", strategy/action/role-playing video game being developed by Firaxis Games for 2K Games.
